About the library

The National Hansen's Disease Museum collects books and materials relating to Issues related to leprosy and human rights issues.

Many of the materials held in The National Hansen's Disease Museum library have been donated, so please be aware that they may contain notes, sticky notes, etc.

Services available in the library

■ About lending library materials


The library offers an external lending service for materials in its collection.

 

You will need to register as a user the first time you borrow a book.Confirmation of your name and addressPlease bring your ID (driver's license, health insurance card, etc.) and apply at the library counter.
If you are using the facility as an organization such as a school, please fill in the name of your organization and the name of the person in charge in the name field and the location of your organization in the address field on the rental application form (if the location of your organization can be confirmed by a web search, no proof is required).

You can also use the loan service by mail. For details, please see the "Notice regarding the start of the loan service by mail" below.

Loan period: 4 weeks (please inquire individually about extensions)

Number of items available for loan: Up to 5 items

Loan extension: If there is no reservation for the book currently on loan, you can extend the loan period for up to four weeks from the scheduled return date.

About returns
There is no return box. Please come to the library to return the item, or send it to the address below. If you send it by mail, the shipping fee will be borne by the user. There is no designated delivery company.
When shipping, please package the materials carefully to prevent damage.
If you use a letter pack, please be careful of the thickness and weight.

■ About the search archive of sanatorium journals, etc.


Near the entrance of the library reading room, there is a terminal where you can search for journals published by each National leprosy sanatorium and newspaper articles related to Hansen's Disease. You can search the table of contents and articles, and browse PDF data of some magazines.

 

About the rental service by mail

The library offers a loan service for materials by mail.

 

Loan period: 4 weeks (calculated from the date of loan shipment to the date of return shipment)

Number of items available for loan: Up to 5 items

Loan extension: If there is no reservation for the book currently on loan, you can extend the loan period for up to four weeks from the scheduled return date.

 

■ How to apply

[For those who have not yet registered as users]


Please fill in the required items on the loan application form, attach a copy of your name and address (driver's license, health insurance card, etc.) and send it by registered mail to the following mailing address. Lending is also accepted at the same time as user registration.


If you are using a group such as a school, please enter the name of the group and the name of the person in charge in the name field of the loan application form, and the location of the group in the address field (search the web for the group). If you can confirm your location, you do not need a certificate).

Shipping and return procedures
Shipping costs for both loan and return will be borne by the user.
We will use Yu-Pack for shipping.
There is no need to specify a delivery company when returning the item.
When returning materials, please package them carefully to prevent damage.
If you use a letter pack, please be careful of the thickness and weight.

 

About duplication

Photocopying services are available in the reading room of the library.


If you wish to use photocopy services, please fill out the necessary information on the photocopy application form available at the library counter, and after receiving confirmation from a staff member, you will then be required to complete the service yourself.

The scope of copying is as follows:
Library material: Less than half of each individual work (shorthand collections of short stories as well).
Collection of papers: Less than half of the individual papers.
Magazines: The latest issue cannot be copied (the latest issue held in the library).
Back issues include all individual papers and articles.

Photocopy fees
B5, A4, B4 monochrome: 10 yen per sheet, color: 20 yen per sheet
A3 monochrome: 20 yen per sheet, color: 40 yen per sheet

 

About video materials

In the library, you can watch video materials in the reading room.


Please select the video material you would like from the DVD section in the reading room and request it at the counter.

Some video materials can be borrowed. To check whether a material is available for loan, please use Library search system or contact the library by email, fax, or phone.

 

About references

Please ask the staff at the counter for references (including questions and consultations) regarding the materials in our collection. We also accept inquiries by e-mail, fax or telephone.
