Multifaceted interview survey regarding Nagashima-Aiseien (4th online event)
*The event has ended.

You can view the recording of the day's multifaceted interview survey regarding Nagashima-Aiseien on YouTube.

Lecturer Hiroshi Kinoshita (Hiroshi Kinoshita, Curator, Nagashima-Aiseien History Museum)

At the Nagashima-Aiseien History Museum, we are conducting interviews with residents and collecting materials, as well as interviews with staff. In the era of Reiwa, the staff who worked for many years reached retirement age and left the garden one after another without saying anything. Not keeping it in the record is a big loss. We will talk about the efforts of nurses, prosthetics and orthotists, facility management team staff, electricians, etc. to record the history of Aiseien and their thoughts on the garden.

Multifaceted Interview Survey on Nagashima-Aiseien: Report

Lecturer Hiroshi Kinoshita (Hiroshi Kinoshita, Curator, Nagashima-Aiseien History Museum)

In the history museum, many testimonies, mainly videos, are open to the public. On the day of the event, curator Kinoshita, who was in charge of the sanatorium, said that as the number of people in the sanatorium continues to decline and the population is aging, he will conduct interviews again with specific themes, interview residents who have never spoken before, and collect materials to support their testimony. , In addition, we asked specifically about new initiatives, such as interviews with sanatorium staff that "can make up for parts that residents do not remember."
Furthermore, he suggested that we should not overlook "island languages" and "psychic experiences" as something that can convey the "memories of the land" of the sanatorium.
Many questions were asked by the participants, demonstrating the depth of their interest.
We will continue to deliver talks on the Issues related to leprosy from various perspectives, making use of the opinions we received through questionnaires and other means.

From the questionnaire

  • I learned a lot from the results of the careful investigation and analysis.
  • A new perspective on the interview survey, a valuable story that I was able to hear from there. You will learn a lot. It would be nice if the truth about people with Hansen's Disease and discrimination against the disease would be revealed.
  • By listening to the island language, I think I was able to see a little bit of life in the facility.
  • Your questions have been answered and I have gained a better understanding. The phrase "Silence is also testimony" was very impressive. I think that talking about one's own experience has different meanings for each person and depending on the time of year. I thought it was important.
  • The lecturer explained in an easy-to-understand and polite manner, and even though it was online, we were able to share our thoughts and feelings with each other. Thank you very much. In the future, I definitely want to participate in museum talks and visit museums.
  • At first, I thought that the talk was for people involved in research related to the treatment of Hansen's Disease, and that it might not be something that ordinary people like myself would hear. However, I think that it was a very helpful story regardless of the field. The episodes of the interview results were also interesting. Such valuable research must be accumulated every day at every sanatorium. I would like to watch videos of past talks and talks after the next time. Thank you very much.

… We have received many other answers. Thank you very much.
