Invitation from the library-Turn pages and trace your thoughts-Event report

Lecturer: Akira Saito (Akira Saito The National Hansen's Disease Museum Library Staff)

In this talk, you saw a tour of the National Hansen's Disease Museum Library. The camera entered the library for the first time since its opening, and it started with the "Leprosy Bunko" set up at the National Sanatorium Tama Zenseien, and passed through the "Leprosy Library" to the current library. It was a commentary on the collection, preservation and utilization of literature on the problem. In addition to introducing the functions and services that can be used in the library, the painting work "Promin no Hikari", the closed stack library that is not normally open to the public, etc. I also talked about valuable books such as "Yamazakura".
On the day of the event, in addition to the question and answer session, we relayed the view of the cherry blossom trees seen from the window of the library. You can see the youtube archive video here.
We will continue to provide talks on the Hansen's disease problem from various perspectives, making use of the opinions received in the questionnaire.

From the questionnaire

  • It was a very easy-to-understand explanation, and I only knew it for the first time. Also, since I am far away, I was wondering if I could investigate various things unless I went out, but I was grateful that I was able to respond quite flexibly. In addition to lending, I got the impression that I could feel free to ask questions and consult with me, so I felt close to the library.
  • I heard today's museum talk as if I were there. I learned about the history of the library and the fact that the residents had a hard time collecting materials by showing me the library that I had never entered. I hope that it will be further developed by making great use of it.
  • Thank you for your kind explanation as guidance on using the library. Also, I think that the composition of the dialogue between Mr. Saito and Mr. Yoshikuni was effective in giving a three-dimensional overview of the content of the talk.
I would like to ask one question from the viewers for your reference, but with Mr. Atsugi, who wrote the text in "The Soul of the Leprosy" published in 1950, which Mr. Saito introduced. Ryoji Mitsuoka, the author of "The Hokage of Life" published in 1970, has a different pseudonym of the same person, but the evaluation of Tamio Hojo mentioned there is somewhat different. I think the reason I have to think about this is that after a time lag of 20 years, Mr. Mitsuoka (Atsugi) definitely wanted to change the content.
  • I was told that he was trying to explain in an easy-to-understand manner, such as displaying the name of the person related to the content of the story at the bottom of the screen or displaying the book on the screen. thank you. Since I live in a rural area and it is difficult to visit the site, the museum talk using this zoom is helpful. In addition, I am always looking forward to participating in the museum talk by zoom, which connects sanatoriums around the world, as it is a convenient method unique to this era. Please continue by all means.

… We have received many other answers. Thank you very much.
