Report on "Hansen's Disease and Human Rights" Seminar

We have distributed an archived video (approximately 1.5 hours) of the 2021 "Hansen's Disease and Human Rights" seminar held on YouTube live on Saturday, December 11, 2021. This year, Mr. Shigeki Sakamoto, who has been active as an international law scholar and human rights education expert for many years, and Mr. Mitsuo Huang, who is the deputy leader of family litigation, will talk about human rights that they would like to convey through Issues related to leprosy in educational settings. We talked about the challenges.
We would like to introduce some of the impressions of the participants.

From the questionnaire

  • I was impressed by the words that the social structure does not change just by knowing the correct knowledge that Mr. Huang said. In human rights education, I felt that it was necessary not only to learn knowledge and history, but also to think about how to act in order for everyone to live happily. [Osaka Prefecture, 50s]
  • To be honest, I (21 years old) had the image that Hansen's Disease was an old story. It was the same as the old tale, and I didn't have the impression that it was still a "raw" problem. I think that the history of discrimination has the contradictory nature that the sense of discrimination is inherited (although it is decreasing), while I think that proper and correct knowledge should be known. I also wanted to think about the sense of balance around here and what I should do in the future. [Saitama Prefecture, 20s]
  • Mr. Sakamoto's "subject of rights", I decided to study more while valuing this perspective. Huang's song "Omoiyo Todoke" is a wonderful work, and I want to hear it many times. Thank you very much. [Tokyo, 50s]
  • This time, I was able to learn more about how the family spent their time. Huang's songs and guitars were wonderful, and I felt that it resonated with my own idea that it is important to know but feel about Hansen's Disease and its discrimination issues. It is important for the family to be willing to express themselves, and because they cannot do so, discrimination will increase ... I would like to think deeply from that point. [Saitama Prefecture, 20s]

… We have received many other answers. Thank you very much.
