Welcome to the Hansen's Disease Museum

Welcome to the Hansen's Disease Museum

In recent years, Memorial museum have been established one after another at National leprosy sanatorium across the country. This is an indication that the sanatorium is putting effort into preserving materials and historical sites, promoting awareness through exhibitions and lectures, and interacting with the local community.
On the other hand, there are also Memorial museum that have a long history of operation, memorial halls of former private sanatoriums, and national museums. The number of these museum facilities now stands at 14. Each group carries out unique activities centered around the origins, lifestyle, and culture of sanatoriums. Sanatoriums have a unique history, and the significance of the existence of these facilities that preserves this history and passes it on to society is extremely important.
This exhibition will introduce museum facilities from all over the country in the hopes of deepening understanding of the history of each sanatorium and promoting efforts to preserve materials and historic sites, spread awareness, and interact with local communities. Please come and see it for yourself.

Museum facilities such as Memorial museum, memorial halls, and archives located in Leprosy sanatorium and former sanatoriums across the country carry out a variety of activities. Therefore, we asked the people in charge of each museum to directly report on the activities they are carrying out. Why not use this opportunity to experience specific images as an opportunity to actually visit each museum?
