Succession of Nagashima-Aiseien History Museum-Event report

Lecturer Tomohisa Tamura (Tamura Tomohisa Nagashima-Aiseien History Museum Curator)

Nagashima-Aiseien History Museum (Setouchi City, Okayama Prefecture) boasts one of the largest number of visitors among the museums of Leprosy sanatorium He talked about the museum's efforts and various practices to counter the weathering of memories related Issues related to leprosy It is an open enlightenment activity that begins with the preservation and utilization of materials (actual materials, documents, videos, sound sources, works, etc.), and actively incorporates cooperation with local communities and exchanges through tourism. These efforts make the Issues related to leprosy a social property and have the potential to break all infectious disease discrimination. Many questions were asked by the participants, demonstrating their deep interest in the museum's activities.
We will continue to provide talks on the Issues related to leprosy from various perspectives, making use of the opinions received from questionnaires.

From the questionnaire

  • From the beginning to the end, I learned a lot, and it was very interesting and fun to listen to! In response to the difficult task of weathering, we are seriously searching for and practicing all possible means, not only for human rights issues, but also for various people and places, whether in business, politics, or personal life. In addition, I think that the content is surely "communicative".
  • Whatever the reason, I feel that it is best to broaden our learning and understanding of the right of people to live, the dignity of life, and the true role of the country. I feel that there are many similar problems here and there, even if they differ in position, angle, and degree, and I hope that there will be more opportunities to think about human rights on a daily basis.
  • Nagashima-Aiseien Museum made me feel a certain movement to connect people from all directions Hansen's Disease and confine it like a small island. I learned that the movement to become a part of the region again without being separated from the economic and industrial fields is very natural and necessary. It is certain that there is a problem of discrimination like one of the pillars of the world that human beings make up, and it is not a problem to avoid from life, while Hansen's Disease is not regarded as a special frame of discrimination problem. I thought again that history should be inherited as a human activity and a human footprint. Thank you for your courageous lecture.

… We have received many other answers. Thank you very much.
