Bud is like my dream
The pain of illness
The loneliness of not having friends
Don't worry about your dreams
It swells in my chest

From SY・``Sakura'' (``Aoi Me'' No. 8, Higashimurayama City Higashimurayama Second Junior High School, March 1965)

Did you know that Tama Zenshoen once had a branch classroom for a local junior high school? The Higashimurayama Junior High School Full-time Classroom (later Higashimurayama City Higashimurayama Second Junior High School Full-time Classroom) opened in 1953, when the Leprosy Prevention Law was enacted, and sent out its last graduates in 1979. This was at a time when Hansen's Disease could already be cured with medicine. The children lived in a sanatorium, received treatment, attended a small school building, and spent their days working towards leaving the school.

This exhibition will feature 107 prints by children that were included in the graduation collection ``Aoi Me'' compiled in the branch classroom. Please take this opportunity to take a look at the works that richly express the daily lives of facing illness and isolation, as well as anxiety and hope for the future.
