Report from the site of the The National Hansen's Disease Museum storage tour and data management

Lecturer: Ayaka Hashimoto (Ayaka Hashimoto The National Hansen's Disease Museum curator)

Many of the materials stored in the The National Hansen's Disease Museum are such that when the Prince Takamatsu Memorial Hansen's Disease Museum, the predecessor of the The National Hansen's Disease Museum, was established, the Former leprosy patients will leave a living proof of themselves and will not repeat the damage caused by the isolation policy, prejudice and discrimination. It was collected from sanatoriums nationwide for the purpose of appealing. These are currently being organized and investigated by curators.
In this museum talk, we talked about the introduction of the stored materials and the practices and ingenuity related to the preservation and management of the materials, focusing on the storage 1 that contains the actual materials. As for the collection materials, the relics Former leprosy patients showing the relationship with the family, the Patient procedures tools that tell the history of the patients and the Former leprosy patients being forced to work, the self-help tools that supported the life while having a disability, and the sanatorium. You have seen the camera of Zhao Neji, who has recorded the life of the family. Regarding the preservation and management of materials, we explained the structure of the storage, temperature and humidity control, and efforts to control insect damage such as fumigation.
Taking advantage of your many impressions and comments, we will continue to deliver talks from various perspectives on the Issues related to leprosy.

From the questionnaire

  • I don't say anything about the collection, but because there are people who keep it carefully and hand it down, the wishes, thoughts, and the way the owner lives are surely conveyed. Thank you for letting me know and learn this way today (although online). Thank you very much.
  • Hansen's Disease was a world that we were not so involved in in our 20s, so by being able to touch it this time, we can understand the positions and feelings of various people as well as ourselves and Leprosy patients (Former leprosy patients). I felt like I was able to do it.
  • The materials were carefully and carefully stored, and I was filled with the thoughts put into each one. Despite being forced into a sad and ruthless life, I feel that I am struck by the attitude of living positively by devising tools.
  • The trunk introduced this time was also shocking. There is still a serious conflict between the Former leprosy patients and their families, so it may be difficult to do (exhibit), but in detail about the families and those suffering from leprosy, the collection I would love to see a gallery exhibition.
  • I was impressed by the polite handling of Mr. Hashimoto's historical materials (materials). Residents were full of respect for the collections collected by the lunch box, and I was able to deepen my learning through that attitude. I am grateful that this collection is like a heritage of humankind that will continue to be inherited in the future, and that the collection for that purpose will be maintained.

… We have received many other answers. Thank you very much.
