Public sanatorium photo panel exhibition

This year marks 100 years since Leprosy sanatorium were established as a national policy. In 1907, due to the `` (Old) Leprosy Prevention Law'', measures against leprosy began as a national policy, and in 1909, Public sanatorium were established in five locations across the country, but sanatoriums were designed to provide isolation rather than medical treatment. It was a place I prioritized. At that time, Hansen's Disease was called ``leprosy,'' and the diagnosis of this disease was also called ``the declaration of leprosy.'' As a result, the journey after the establishment of the sanatorium was by no means a smooth one for patients and Former leprosy patients.
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Public sanatorium, The National Hansen's Disease Museum will hold an exhibition titled ``One Hundred Years of Isolation - The Birth of Public leprosy sanatorium'' (held from July 25th to December 20th), and will hold exhibitions at five locations. We will introduce the background of the establishment, the history of establishing the sanatorium, and the community's reaction.
Prior to this, we will be holding a pre-planned exhibition, `` Public sanatorium Photo Panel Exhibition,'' tracing the history of sanatoriums through photographs.
Please take a look at the daily life, annual events, Patient exercises, cultural activities, etc., as well as the characteristics of each of the five sanatoriums that can be glimpsed from these photos.
We hope that this exhibition will serve as an opportunity to reconsider the history of suffering of Leprosy patients and Former leprosy patients.
