全国のハンセン病療養所の絵画サークルのなかで、高い評価を得てきた九州・菊池恵楓園の金陽会。
極度に制約された人生を強いられながら、描くことに生きがいを見つけた10人の作家たち。彼らの作品展を東京で初開催いたします。

全国のハンセン病療養所には、絵筆を持ってキャンバスに向き合った入所者が少なからずいました。戦後、いくつかの療養所では絵画サークルが誕生し、ハンセン病療養所における文化活動の重要な一角を占めています。
こうした絵画サークルの大半は活動が一時的であったり、作者の没後に作品が処分されたりして、その全貌をたどることは困難となっていますが、菊池恵楓園（熊本県合志市）の絵画クラブ・金陽会は、1953（昭和28）年の発足以来、10人から20人の入所者が活発に活動をつづけ、850点もの絵画作品がのこされて現在に至っています。
本企画展では、これまで質・量ともに高い水準の作品を生み出し続けてきた金陽会の、代表的な10人の作家の作品を展示いたします。
これまで、菊池恵楓園の地元・熊本市現代美術館をはじめとして、各地で金陽会の絵画展が開催され、金陽会の名は徐々に知られてはいますが、東京での開催は初となります。
金陽会のリーダー的存在であった吉山安彦氏（90歳）は、「金陽会は、仲間たちのおりなすハーモニーだった」と述べています。自由に絵を描き続けてきた、個性豊かな仲間たち。――タイトルを「キャンバスに集う」とした所以もここにあります。
病気、障害、療養所の制度などにより、生活全般が大幅に制約される境遇にあっても、絵を描くことに懸命にとりくみ、生きがいを見い出して前向きに生きてきた姿を感じとっていただければ幸いです。

2019年4月27日（土）、ゴールデンウイーク初日に春季企画展オープニング・セレモニーを開催いたしました。本日は国立音楽大学学生による弦楽四重奏と学芸員による企画展ギャラリートーク、国立音楽大学学生によるヴァイオリンソロ演奏による3部構成にて「キャンバスに集う～菊池恵楓園・金陽会絵画展」を開幕しました。
多くのお客様においでいただき、大変感謝しております。ありがとうございました。お客様からいただきましたご意見やご感想を紹介させていただきます。

• I think this is a good project where you can experience authentic classical music by local students. I am grateful that the condition has come out from the Bach position. I hope that you will increase the frequency of non-commercial movies and things like this project without overdoing it.

Event report (Workshop "Gathered on canvas!")

2019年5月5日（日）、こどもの日に春季企画展ワークショップ「キャンバスにあつまれ！」を開催いたしました。はじめに、企画展室にて「キャンバスに集う～菊池恵楓園・金陽会絵画展」の絵画鑑賞を経てから、ワークショップを開始しました。参加者みんなで大きなキャンバスに向かって思いっきり好きなだけお絵描きをして、田川さんが最後の仕上げを行いました。
子どもたち、お父さんお母さん、お友だち、大勢のお客様にご参加いただきました。ゴールデンウィークの思い出を絵を描くことに思いを込めてくださいまして、ありがとうございました。

Event report (Talk project "Pictures for Living")

On Saturday, June 1, 2019, we held a talk show "Pictures for Living" at the Spring Exhibition. Today, we invited Professor Yuki Arai, who is engaged in research activities in a wide range of fields, such as research on Hansen's Disease literary activities and research on painting activities for people with disabilities, and (listener) a talk by the curator of the The National Hansen's Disease Museum I made a plan.

We are very grateful to many customers for visiting us. Thank you very much. We would like to introduce the opinions and impressions received from our customers.

• Thank you for your wonderful lecture. I was afraid that there was still a sense of discomfort, prejudice, and discrimination against the Paralympic Earl Brut, but Mr. Arai talked about how my feelings were adjusted and verbalized. I think that the story of Oliver Sacks study session and Bethel's house has a high affinity.
• Each of the paintings from the Kinyokai painting exhibition left a lasting impression on me. I felt that it was a world that emerged because of repeated dialogues with myself. The story of Mr. Arai's "I didn't have money" and "It was fun" was memorable. (What you can express with a picture. It is difficult to put it into words) I want to cherish what I felt while standing in front of the picture.
• This was the first time I was able to hear the story of Professor Arai, and it was the first opportunity to visit the museum. It was helpful to talk about the excessive expectations and desires of the viewer and the works with high / low independence.
• It was good to hear the feelings of living and the expressions for living. I felt that it was important to know and convey the background of the work and the form that was born from the environment at that time. I want you to spread it when you think that people will live. Also, I would like you to hold such an art exhibition once a year. I also want to see pictures of people who couldn't be seen this time.
• Mr. Arai's story was very interesting. I was able to continue to draw pictures that I couldn't express well, and to know the fun of art without the correct answer. I think that the museum that I've always wanted to visit has also informed my friends. Thank you very much.

Report (Lecture "Kinyokai Writers, Their Real Faces" and Classic Concert)

2019年6月8日（土）、春季企画展 講演会「金陽会の作家たち、その素顔」とエロイカ・トリオによる木管三重奏のクラシックコンサートを開催いたしました。
お話しいただいた太田明さんは、絵画サークル「金陽会」が活動した国立療養所菊池恵楓園の入所者自治会副会長で、一般社団法人 金陽会理事。
講演では、金陽会の“仲間たち”の素顔を、活きいきとした思い出とともにふりかえりながら、絵画作品の創作の背景を語られました。
最後に太田さんは、「彼らにとって、絶対隔離という闇の中で、絵を描くことだけが、この世に生を受けたその自己存在を示す方法であった」としめくくりました。
太田さんの講演に続いて、オーボエ、ファゴット、クラリネットの木管三重奏を演奏してくださったのは、エロイカ・トリオのお三方。
ヘンデルの「水上の音楽」や、モーツァルトのディベルティメント（喜遊曲）などのクラシック曲の他、日本の歌曲「浜辺の歌」や「ふるさと」なども披露してくださいました。
多くのお客様においでいただき、大変感謝しております。ありがとうございました。お客様からいただきましたご意見やご感想を紹介させていただきます。

• Kikuchi Keifuen several times, but I was impressed by the wonderfulness of the Kinyokai paintings for the first time at this exhibition. By knowing the background of the 10 people who drew each of the works exhibited through Mr. Ota's lecture, I thought that I could face the painting more deeply. Thank you for your valuable opportunity. Three years later, I am looking forward to the renewal of Memorial museum
• It was very good to understand the history of Kinyokai and the thoughts of the members who were interested. It made me think about the meaning of living.
• I was able to understand the background well by explaining while projecting the pictures of the special exhibition. In particular, I was deeply moved by the fact that Mr. Kinoshita's "group escape" was drawn in Leprosy Prevention Law Thank you very much.
• Mr. Akira Ota explained each person's work and episodes with that person very carefully, and I was able to know what the sanatorium was like and what it was like at that time. The music in the latter half was also a very meaningful time with the introduction of musical instruments and individual episodes.
• When I heard Mr. Ota's story, I could understand the thoughts put into each picture. This kind of concert is also good. It was nice to have a loose and loose talk.

Event report (Gallery talk of a special exhibition by a curator)

会期中の上記の日程にて、学芸員によるギャラリートークを開催しております。
ごあいさつからはじまり、ハンセン病療養所の絵画サークル「金陽会」のあゆみと名前の由来、仲間との絆などの詳細、そして、10人の作家たちの絵画制作にまつわるエピソードなどを含め、作品の解説を行っております。
大勢のお客様にご参加いただきました。ありがとうございました。お客様からいただきましたご意見やご感想を紹介させていただきます。

• 高校生の時に鹿児島の星塚敬愛園を訪れる機会があり、ハンセン病についてある程度理解していたつもりでしたが、展示と企画展を見て認識を改めました。特に企画展は学芸員の方の解説を聞くことで、自分で見るだけではわからない一枚一枚の絵画に込められた意味や背景が浮かび上がってきました。おそらく学芸員の方の思いが（企画・作品選出等々）強いからこそ訴えかけてくるものがより強くなったのだと思います。説明を聞けて本当に良かったです。同じ人間に生まれたのに、家族ももたされず、学校にも行けず、故郷にも帰れなかった方々の気持ちに少しだけ近付くことができたように思います。と同時に”絵”という表現手法をもたなかった方々の気持ち、差別の上に成り立っていた伝統的な（美しいとされる）日本についても考えさせられました。また勉強し直し、子供達にも伝えていきたいと思います。貴重な機会を本当にありがとうございました。
