Request from the Museum
The National Hansen's Disease Museum museum was established by Leprosy recovered persons themselves. We collect, preserve, and exhibit evidence of the lives of Leprosy patients and Former leprosy patients, with the hope that the same mistakes will never be repeated in our society.
In order to protect and pass The National Hansen's Disease Museum these important materials, we ask that all visitors to the museum please observe the following:
Smoking is not permitted

Smoking is not permitted inside the museum.
Food and beverages are not permitted

Food and beverages are not permitted. Please make use of the water cooler that is located near the lockers at the back of Lobby 1 on the first floor. Click here for the floor map of the National Hansen's Disease Museum.
*There is a drink vending machine outside the building.
Do not touch the exhibit materials

Most of the materials displayed are real, and the reproductions are fragile. Do not touch the exhibits as it may cause staining or damage of the exhibits. Items that can be touched are indicated.
Do not run inside the museum

You may bump into people or display cases. Walk slowly around the museum as the items may be damaged if you run into the display cases while running.
Do not talk loudly inside the museum

Please move around the museum quietly so that other visitors can also see the museum with a good feeling.
Keep any large items at the locker

There is a risk that large luggage items may bump into materials, display cases, or other people. Please use the coin-operated lockers placed at the back of Lobby 1 on the first floor and at the entrance to the video hall (coins will be returned after the lockers have been used). Do not carry umbrellas into the museum

Please place your umbrellas at the stand at the main entrance so that materials and books in the exhibition rooms and library do not get wet or damaged, and people around you do not feel uncomfortable.
Do not bring pets to the museum

Please do not bring pets into the museum, as they may bring insects or shed their hair (excluding guide and service dogs). We cannot keep your pets in the museum.
Do not bring hazardous items or flammable materials

Refrain from bringing dangerous items or flammable materials to the museum, as it may cause a fire.
