2012 Autumn Exhibition "Leprosy records(Rain Kiroku)- Sanatorium under absolute isolation written by Tamio Hojo -'' is an exhibition of the essays `` Leprosy records'' and `` Leprosy records'' that record the inside of the sanatorium during the era of absolute segregation, using tools and photographs from the time. This is what I did. The author, Tamio Hojo, is known for his novel ``The First Night of Life,'' and during the three-and-a-half years between his admission to the hospital and his death, he left behind a number of excellent pieces of writing, attempting to portray a new image of humanity through the images of leprosy patients.

The sanitarium pictured in this exhibition is from a time when chemotherapy treatments such as Promin did not yet exist. The reason why we are revisiting situations that are no longer possible today is that Tamio Hojo's essay, which forms the basis of this exhibition, is based on the circumstances surrounding patients at the time, including the severity of their symptoms. This is because it depicts ``the preciousness of living as a human being,'' as demonstrated by people who suffer from illnesses that cannot stop the progression of their symptoms. This is definitely a current issue for society in the sense that even if the causes or historical backgrounds are different, people still exist as human beings no matter what their circumstances are.

By presenting the work as an exhibition in addition to the original essay, we will be able to create a sense of reality that could not be achieved through written expression alone. I believe that it is only by recognizing the background that existed at that time without turning away that we can empathize with the preciousness of life that the patient showed. Therefore, in this exhibition, we aimed to recreate the situation described in the essay as faithfully as possible. I hope that the historical understanding of sanatoriums and patients under absolute isolation that I gain from this experience will lead to interpersonal relationships that allow me to face each individual Former leprosy patients. I also hope that it will help those of us who are not patients or Former leprosy patients of Hansen's Disease to discover the connections between the history of Hansen's disease and current issues.
